We are very pleased to be showing the work of Sandralee. True to the original concept of our Gateway Galleries, the artist has created paintings that are her own interpretations of the symbols that are part of theme The Perfect Form in Star Journey. Above you can see how she depicts the energies of the Star of Austerity and Star of Independence, also other symbols including The Field and The Fog. Sandralee has included other artwork of hers as well, all cleverly executed with Sharpie markers and many with the bold use of color.

Here is the Artist’s Statement:

"If a picture is worth a thousand words, why do I have to write anything?" (just kidding)

Random artist wandering aimlessly around Second Life, learning the graphics functions, when I come across the Star Journey sim. They take a look at my art and suggest I draw what ten symbols mean to me for a specialized gallery on their island.

This was an especially fun assignment. They gave me ten symbols, and I read the meaning of each one and the pictures began to form in my head. I whipped out the Sharpie pens and drew the ten symbols on 8X8 cards.

Then I scanned them with a flatbed and colored them in Photoshop with web colors. I looked at the black and white scans, against the colored ones and decided that the color was far more attractive to the eye. The black and white drawings are nice but, the color ones made the cut.

So, I brought them into Second Life and displayed them. Asked all my friends to come look at them and I realized that I really loved them. That night I had a dream that I drew all 96 symbols. I told Richard about my dream, I told him I thought there might be something to this.

Richard gave me a link to read his book and so I did. Started reading his book and I realized I was drawing the symbols as my own form of taking the Star Journey. The sim, the symbols, the book, they have all inspired me in a way only an artist would understand.
