Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a tool that uses a special set of Symbol Cards in spread arrangements called journeys to explore one’s inner thoughts and feelings about topics of personal interest. Often, the dynamics of a situation become visible by employing archetypal images, and through manipulating symbols on a mental plane, one can explore and often resolve many issues that have otherwise caused difficulty and confusion. Topics can be work, health, love, money, success – anything that matters to you. Star Journey’s unique process of interpretation involves several steps that utilize the mind in different ways, all leading to deeper meaning and awareness. One’s creativity and imagination come into play creating unique Picture stories that reveal both current dynamics as well as envisioning the desired state. The final step is developing a positive plan of action for improving the real-life situation. Star Journey is positive, affirming and empowering.

Star Journey is not hard to use, and there are complete instructions with all products. But it does involve using your mind in several ways, and some ways will be new to some people. Some steps are structured and linear and some are very nonlinear and creative, drawing upon one’s imagination, and all this is intended to help you discover new solutions.

Although we support interpreting the cards any way you like, we also have developed a step-by-step method for reviewing all the information on each card, to get the most from your session. We encourage using this guided process to see what’s possible. The process can move quickly once you get used to it.

Yes. In the author’s mind, quite simply, we’re all from a star, and we’re all on a journey. The name Star Journey then speaks of the human condition. And that makes it an appropriate name for a tool to help people manage the condition of being human.

It’s been a creative evolution. The tool was first marketed as Star+Gate™ Symbolic System, then Star+Gate – Tool for Intuition from Random House. In 2008 the author decided the tool had become more of a journey, more of a process, although it used the same group of common symbols. Also, the tool was changing as it was being used in new media and technology. Then a  phone app was created, and the online experience of everything mushroomed, from buying products on Amazon to running around in virtual worlds.

So, having a website with interactive tools available on it allowed the tool to further evolve and change as it was used by more people. The fundamentals of the set of symbols on cards and its corresponding circle pattern geometry with levels, steps and stages has been the same since it originated in 1968, over fifty years ago. But the mediums in which it was expressed keep changing, hence preferring a name that spoke of movement and change was Star Journey.

Yes, it used to be called Star+Gate. But it’s evolved over the years, more versions, applications, things like apps and our Online Tools. It became more experiential, more fluid.

Yes. There’s one book in print, two older books and one upcoming.

  – Star+Gate Tool for Intuition, Vintage Books/Random House, 1986 (out of print)

Work in progress, a new book: How to Become Your Own Intuitive Guide.

It is not fortune-telling. It is not tarot cards. It IS a very good way to get in touch with your feelings and subconscious mind. It will not tell you about current events. It will not solve the problem of global warming.
Anyone, really. Children play it, they just play it differently from adults. Star Journey is for anyone wanting clarity about some situation or aspect of their life. It was designed to be easy to use, and simple and accessible for most people. It’s used a lot by people with interests in psychology, spirituality and self-help. It was designed to emphasize positive solutions and outcomes.
  • Whenever you feel a need to get in touch with the deeper you, the one who knows what to do
  • When you need to clarify objectives of a situation. The Goal Journey helps gain clarity about something you seek, like wanting to achieve success about a personal topic. Included are insights about what’s keeping you from the goal, and where you’re at in the situation.
  • When you need to see options about making a decision
  • When you are faced with change, with transition. The Transition Journey is designed for change, for envisioning where you want to be about one subject or another.
  • When you want to explore a relationship, whether it’s romantic, a friendship or with someone in your family
  • When you want to do a meditation, with or without a subject in mind
  • When you feel like you need a tune-up, feel out of whack. The Personal Portrait is good for this; it’s like taking your temperature at several levels of your own being.

The iPhone app shows only the Goal Journey or spread. However, the Online Tools on the website offer different spread options for different needs – the Goal Journey, Transition Journey and Personal Portrait, plus it includes the Diary of Discovery secure, personal journal for saving snapshots of Journey sessions, along with unlimited space to journal thoughts and feelings.

However, the app is highly mobile, always with you and your phone. It will flip the cards over to reveal key words and levels. It’s very easy to screenshot a spread and share it with a friend. The app is a small one-time purchase ($1.99), whereas Online Tools has many options of use for a small monthly subscription ($2.49 per month).
